Community Tasting Note

January 11, 2023 - Monthly Tasting Group HWS: Clos des Papes (By AH): Beautiful bouquet with red berries, blackberries and cherries and beautiful garrigue. On the palate beautiful fruits, juicy acidity and tannin with a beautiful bite, good bitterness, some pepper. This is a truly very great wine, well balanced, complex, focused and powerful. I would not be surprised when this scores the perfect 100 around 2030. I have a few :). For now 97+

1/13/23, 4:27 PM - This is a great wine, and the really great wines are a feast whether they are young or old. But to answer your question; no this wine is not in an early drinking window yet. Waiting another 5 years is probably a wise thing to do..

1/13/23, 8:22 PM - I haven't opened any yet but we both scored the '15 at 94. I'm very excited to imagine this at 97+!

1/14/23, 9:17 AM - Based on your assessment that might be a few years away! Compared to your 30,000 notes I've only written 1,000. Of those I've awarded 97+ only four times. I guess I should drink better wines.

1/14/23, 9:34 AM - Drinking better wine is always a good idea! I participate in groups where often very special wines are poured, not necessarily by me. That helps. And many friends think my scores are in general quite conservative. And I am always interested in other peoples opinion when they score their wines seriously. I had my first bottle of the 2016 scheduled for 2026, but I will probably postpone that a few years.

9/18/23, 1:57 PM - I opened a bottle yesterday and was wowed by its deliciousness. You seem to think it will continue to improve over the next 5 years but I'm not at all convinced. My bottle seemed poised on a knife s edge as if it might collapse at any moment. I certainly hope you're right and I'm wrong.
