January 28, 2023 - Best on day 3. Deep garnet. Leather and tobacco nose. On the palate high acidity, medium alcohol medium well integrated tannins, plums and pepper, long finish. Outstanding wine, but needs a lengthy decant before it yields much. Drinking well, probably near peak.

1/29/23, 2:39 PM - Thanks so much for the note! To confirm, you mentioned that this was better on day 3 and needed a long decant, but also that it's near peak. Sounds like some more time in bottle might be ideal based on your first comments, but would love your thoughts. Cheers!

1/29/23, 5:41 PM - Yeah it's a tricky one and I think this has to do with my limited experience with Cab Pfeffer and how it ages. I don't think there's any rush on drinking it, but I expect over time more of the fruit will fade, and since it does't offer much fruit to begin with, for my palate that leans toward drinking sooner.

As a comparison I have preferred the mourvedre I've had from Enz because it tends to be less restrained in the fruit department, but both of these have the unmistakeable backbone of Enz and once this opens up it's a joy to drink.

One additional note, I use a Coravin pivot, and didn't give it much time on day 1 so day 3 with the pivot means less oxidation than you'd get from just leaving the cork in, and my sense is with more of a decant on day 1 it would have been more ready to go.
