January 30, 2023 - Popped and poured. Cork was in great shape, came out solid and in one piece with waiter's corkscrew; very little penetration of wine into the cork. Very musty odor initially, but it blew off after about ten minutes. Color is still strong and deep, much more red than brown, although more browning at the rim, as expected in a wine of this age. Legs are somewhat thin, but still visible. Nose is exhibiting nice red berry fruit for the most part, along with soil and graphite. Fairly amazing for a simple Cru Bourgeois that is 22 years old. In the mouth, glassy and smooth, all tannins completely resolved. More tertiary elements in the mouth than in the nose; autumnal flavors, butternut. Remarkably good shape, but I wouldn't dare fate by keeping it longer. Drink up! 5-12-14-8: 89/100.

1/31/23, 8:27 AM - I referred a friend to this. It seem that this producer holds wine before selling, which is brilliant. They do all the aging for you. I have tried the 86, was brilliant, the 89, even better so I bought a case, the 1990, believe it or not it was so so, and now I have test bottles of 2001 and 1999 at the store awaiting pickup. Thanks for your encouraging note on this. I think that based on my palate and knowing the character of the 1999 vs. 2001 left bank wines, I will probably be charmed by the 2001...Will post. Be well Pickle

1/31/23, 6:03 PM - PT, thanks for the comment! So informative. I wondered how a 2001 could have a cork like that. Now I know! I envy you the '89, it was my daughter's birth year. I drank an '89 Lynch-Bages recently that was PERFECT.
