February 1, 2023 - Much better than the bottle I had 5 weeks ago (thanks for the comments, that "forced" me to open another one :-)
Gave it 3 hours of air...Precise, Pauillac-typical nose of black berries, pencil shavings, cedar, tobacco. Nice freshness on the nose and palate. Good mix of primary and tertiary aromas. 92 pts. so far....Had to keep up about 1/3 in the bottle for 5 days (vacuumized) and it was singing on day 6. Much more tension and pressure on the palate, super perfumed nose. 94 pts.....Conclusion for me: needs a lot of air, could be a long runner in view of the hot vintage - but there seems to be certainly some bottle variation! Big difference between my 2 tested bottles. For those who are interested: Pape Clement 2003, which I had a few days ago, was a cut above (96) for me right now!

2/2/23, 4:34 AM - I have a few 2003' left, especially Montrose, Cos, Pape, Pontet, Giscours, Pichon Baron....
I like this vintage and it's not "overripe" for my taste. There is a big difference between the producers regarding the "readiness" at this point. Pontet for example is not as developed as Pape yet....so it will be very interesting to follow the different wines over the next years...Thanks for your comment, Mark

2/2/23, 6:27 AM - Yw, pal. I agree the PapeC is more evolved at this point. I guess where you were in Bdx during this 'hot' year, made a bigger than normal difference in your wine outcome. All those producers you named are in my cellar, too except for Lalande. I think they suffered more that year. The Montrose doesn't appear to be nearly as evolved as the Cos, to me.

2/2/23, 10:39 PM - Montrose is always made for eternity…I never had the feeling of drinking it at the right point. Maybe the 2016-2019 are different?

2/3/23, 6:15 AM - I've not had the opportunity to try any 'modern' ones, I do not know!

2/13/23, 3:26 PM - Very strange! 03 pontet is one of my favourite wines and for me it has always been pop and pour ready. Haven’t had one in a couple years though so I’ll have to give it another spin!

2/13/23, 4:05 PM - SWB......I've been drinking the '03 for about 5-6 years now but always with a 3-5 hour decant!
