October 15, 2023 - Blackish purple in color with a very light watery rim. Rather restrained nose of dark rich plummy fruit and faint notes of cedar, oak, vanilla, and loamy earth. The palate is likewise reserved but what was revealed was relatively well-balanced despite the 15% abv, medium-bodied, very round and silky-textured, lithe, and decently structured but not as extracted and rich as I was anticipating (given my previous experience with the 2012 version of this wine). The flavor components include matured dark purple and red fruits, young tobacco, cedar, vanilla, a faint impression of menthol and lavender leaves, and a quick but pronounced flash of cool wet minerality (graphite?) towards the slightly hot (as in alcoholic) finish. Obviously still very young in its development but is delicious with plenty (as in lots and lots) of air. I will have to revisit this again over the next few nights to see how this evolve. Day 2: The nose is more generous while the flavor components tastes much more alive and even-keeled with the alcohol in check. Day 3: The flavor profile is much more integrated and harmonious, while the vanilla and wet earthy minerality become more intensified towards the protracted finish. The grippy tannins became more evident today which suggests that it’s still have plenty of upside left in this amazing wine. 91 - 93
