November 15, 2023 - Consistent as the day is long, these later model Droins (especially the awesome 2019s) continue to steal the show for me. These are full bodied Chardonnays that have a sense of finesse and utter focus. The lemon juice and orange zest flavors enliven the palate, with a subtle bead of vanilla-meets-chalk providing perfect frame for the unctuous fruit. Drink now just cuz it’s tasty or hold with confidence for 6-7+ years. Sealed with DIAM.

11/17/23, 10:05 AM - Awesome! I see you've been a roll with tastings, smashing some amazing juice! Remember, take your milk thistle! ))

I'm on the tail end of recovery from a crazy flu. Took a week. Opened a 90 Las Cases to honor still being on this side of the dirt. After 2 hrs in the decanter I wasn't satisfied w the way it was opening so put it aside and opened a 98 Trotanoy. That was much better. Needed about 4 hours to really sing and when it did, kapow, what a Pavarotti! Loved it. Will revisit the Las Cases tonight me thinks.

Found some 2019 Droin Vaudesir for a good price at a merchant here, will go pick it up later today (3 bottles). Appreciate the tip. Cheers.

11/18/23, 2:44 PM - Hopefully Droin doesn’t disappoint for you. You can blame me if it does! You really do have some really nice BDXs to play around with. I’m very hit/miss with “older” vintages prior to 2000.

    11/19/23, 8:19 PM - Ha, we're good, I'm sure they'll be delish!

I've been super lucky w the older Bordeaux in my cellar. Only problems have been from recent purchases of older vintages from misc vendors. Lesson learned. I'm going to indulge in what I have.

I must say the 95 and 96 vintages are super under rated. Same w 98. I'm sure you've experienced the same. Never had a bad bottle from those vintages. Indeed, they consistently over deliver. Especially the second growths, and even some third growths. But I won't kick a first growth out of bed either ))

I also find its all about decanting. So many actually miss the wine by not doing a proper decant. Kinda blows me away. The 90 Las Cases took 3 days to come around! The 90 Margaux about 6 hours. Had a 99 Palmer last night. 2 hour decant, drank half and returned to the bottle. Tonight its even better. My guess tomorrow will still be going strong and possibly even more gentile and giving. Glad I have more ))) I was kinda shocked the 98 Trotanoy showed ABV at 14.5% Did show a touch and for me took away from the overall experience. Palmer a lovely 12.5%, masterful.
