November 15, 2023 - Consistent as the day is long, these later model Droins (especially the awesome 2019s) continue to steal the show for me. These are full bodied Chardonnays that have a sense of finesse and utter focus. The lemon juice and orange zest flavors enliven the palate, with a subtle bead of vanilla-meets-chalk providing perfect frame for the unctuous fruit. Drink now just cuz it’s tasty or hold with confidence for 6-7+ years. Sealed with DIAM.

November 11, 2023 - Duck, duck, abortion!; 11/11/2023-11/17/2023: Nose of oaked pineapples, dry earth and hay. Fruits are even more showier with time, and white flowers developed, the kind with the thick white petals.
Palate showed deep stones and fruits, light hay, and almost duty minerals on the finish. The fruit here is nice and quite giving, and while not showing a whole lot of acidity (which is astonishing), there is a nice balance between the fruit and the weight this has, showing good integration already. I wouldn’t know how long to cellar these but these are pretty good even now. Curious to see how well these age. -

November 11, 2023 - More impressions than notes. Again, another very very good wine. Nothing really sucked tonight (see story).

May 10, 2022 - Pale lemon in the glass. Still a bit restrained on the nose, but definitely showing layers of potential here - starts out with a nice burst of stone fruit and some green apple, then with air opens to more secondary aromas (brioche, butter) and a strong streak of minerality (feels like bathing myself in a mountain river). Palate is focused, laser precise. The acidity doesn't hit first like you see in many young Chablis, but is straight away balanced with the rich fruit and moderate alcohol. Smooth texture, so easy to drink. Glad I've tried this now and have one more bottle to check in on in a few years.

September 10, 2021 - The Droin Grand Crus in the 2019 vintage are simply crushing it with unreal purity, freshness, and succulent intensity. This is the best vintage of Droin I’ve likely ever had, with the Les Clos, Grenouilles, and Vaudesir at the front of the pack.
Les Clos shows striking similarities to Vaudesir, with succulent yellow citrus, peach skin, lemon juice, and white travertine flavors all packaged in a youthfully opulent core that can’t help but burst a bit at the seams and unlock a gorgeous splaying of fruit flavors. There is just a mild hint of reduction here, but it’s not enough to detract from the overall delivery. A judicious and measured amount of vanillin oak provides just enough creaminess to compliment the oily tang that cascades the fruit over the palate. Finishes wide but focused. Extra air in the glass helped to further expand the flavors. 96+ points. Revisit in 3-4+ years.
Comparatively, Les Clos was more similar to the Vaudesir than to the Grenouilles in that the Grenouilles presented additional Squirt, lime juice, and orange zest flavors beyond what the other two Grand Crus were offering up at the time. I should have loaded up more on these 2019s from Droin. Even the Fourchaume in 2019 is off the charts delicious for a 1er Cru.
Droin seals with DIAM 10, so it’s a no-brainer buy for anyone wanting to lay these down for a bit (which I’d recommend – 3-5+ years to truly get the most out of these superb wines).5 people found this helpful Comment
