December 11, 2023 - A very quiet wine with a serious vibe. No fruit, just airiness and dryness. A very weightless feel that is very out of stride for the current winemaking style in Saint Emilion. Not much barrel influence, which is very nice and gives me hope that this will age gracefully into a more classic direction. A tad bit hot....HOLD_

12/11/23, 9:29 AM - I've been waiting a year for my vendor to get this one in....thinking we missed the great early drinking window on this one?

12/11/23, 10:10 AM - I don’t know. All I can say is that the feeling was mutual amongst 4. This got the cold shoulder amidst young left bank wines. That’s unusual. It sat in the decanter for 5 hours without any noticeable change. I finally dumped mine. I have the balance of the same bottle under gas so I’ll let it sit for 2 weeks and then fully pop it. That’s a very revealing test for these youngsters.

12/12/23, 4:13 AM - I've had this wine in a few vintages including this one and have found it consistently tight, lacking in fruit, unyielding and devoid of real pleasure, even after extended air time (long decant followed by being left open in the bottle for 3 days). Seems to be an overly reductive, extractive style perhaps? Have been truly amazed at what others have been posting on it (is it the same wine?) Maybe only for the AFWE crowd? Not what I have been looking for in St E these days ...

12/12/23, 4:21 AM - I wonder how it would do with 20 seconds in a Vitamix blender at medium speed? A local wine shop here would do that for customers who bought/opened tight bottles at their table.

12/12/23, 4:31 AM - Yikes, for real? Maybe they should put that VitaMix tip though on their rather elegant label :) I have one of those blenders but can't imagine doing that to a wine ...

12/12/23, 4:38 AM - EA, yes. High end wine shop too with very wealthy customers dumb enough to buy an '18 Mouton and want to open it and drink it with their tapas plate right then and there. The Vitamix does work from what little I have sampled. The wine is at least palatable but I still gotta chuckle out of how dumb rich people are....

12/12/23, 7:46 AM - Wine nerds kill my cool and my buzz. They give me a bad name. They make me look in the mirror and question my appearance and clothes. They make me drink more tequila because my beard isn’t long and stringy enough to join a beer gang. Look for me on a bench at the beach with a brown bag. This is why I drink alone now. Don’t feel sorry for me, my life is much improved now.

1/6/24, 7:33 AM - A follow-up on the same bottle under gas for about a month. In my usual “informal fashion “, I popped open the same bottle last Monday as a farewell late night drink to kickstart my January drinking slowdown. Drank a glass, corked the rest until yesterday. Had a glass that blew me away. This was 4 days old after being tapped to the halfway mark for a month. Now we are talking! The wine is SERIOUS. the dryness is just as serious and the fruit is ample and awake. Really delicious now yet still giving me a super dry and serious vibe with slight heat. The fruit balanced things out quite a bit, raising this by 3 to 4 points! Based on this 93/94 and ordering more!

1/6/24, 9:10 AM - PT, so good to know! Thanks for that follow up info. I love when these little experiments give us a hint of what's to come!...now how are the pros able to tell this ahead of time, when we mere mortals can't possibly get that from our first tastes?

1/6/24, 9:13 AM - Short answer: they cant. they are the purveyors of romance.

1/6/24, 10:33 AM - Ah, sad but true. However, Parker seemed to be a dead bang on Romance novelist until his last 5 years or so.....
