March 10, 2024 - I hate to be a jerk. But..I qualify. I have 3 cases of this in 3 formats. The first time I tried this I said, I dot get it. Its been a long night and I will reserve judgment. This time I popped a 1/2 to check in. Interesting? Yes, If you like reading between lines. Otherwise, a head scratcher. This tells me that I either dont know much about wine, or I am shamelessly calling out my own mistakes. Ok ok....Now you need to know about the wine, instead of reading my whine...

In a grapy stage, this is the hopeful voice and the positive part of this encounter. I hope that what I taste as oak creme, alcohol, and underdeveloped fruit turns into something sensational in 7+ years. Meanwhile, cellar carry for me, and an advenure for you. Please write back....HOLD___

3/10/24, 1:44 AM - What was the Decant time for this wine … 2019 is very young DDC in my humble opinion….

3/10/24, 8:00 AM - Hey PT, I had this vintage right on release and it was really good, but not quite as strong as 2016 (or maybe even 2014?). I assume it is now closed down real bad. But I must say the '19 vintage has been perplexing to me at times, with many houses moving towards a "fresher" style, which, when combined with typical BDX new oak, does not always seem as flattering to me as deeper, darker styles. I am more of a blue/black fruited BDX fan, though, so I have a bias, but I usually love DDC, which is more red-fruited, so go figure ... Wow 3 cases, you went in deep! I seldom buy more than one case of anything these days, in case my palate changes in coming years, which it has in the past ...

3/10/24, 5:10 PM - I had this on release as well and was not impressed. It’s not terrible, but it’s far from great. It’s missing a couple of gears in the middle and jumps right over anything delightful and or serious. Today it’s softer, still alcoholic and less empty in the middle, but far from the substantial ingredients and depth that a sensational wine needs to develop and bloom. It’s definitely fresh and made in a classic style but it’s the disjointed feel and the alcohol and hollowness that turns me off. I could stretch it into a 92. That’s it.

There is some good news! I checked and have 27 bottles left and not 3 cases!!!

3/10/24, 10:23 PM - Thanks for sharing! It seems similar to my not-impressed experience so far with the much-praised 2018. I also had a 2015 and was not thrilled. Perhaps it is just the style of wine, perhaps tastes differ, perhaps bottle variation, perhaps it is still developing — or perhaps there is just too much hype. I can’t figure it out. I am hoping “still developing” is correct, but we shall see.

3/11/24, 5:28 AM - For me, I thought the wine was fine (I didn't get the heat, so much as a certain sharpness on the finish that didn't resonate with me). And its priced well to be very QPR. But I've found 2019 Leoville and Brane Cantenac to fit me better, also awesome QPR. However, there are great tasters who love the DDC and think it will head somewhere appropriately delicious so maybe we just need to wait 15 years...!

3/11/24, 8:26 AM - I’m a huge fan of ddc. With that said, my favorite vintage of this is the 1998 for consumption but there is no denying the beauty of 2014 and the promising substance crammed into 2018. But I can most likely replace the 2019 with a good vintage from its neighbor, latour martillac. As a matter of fact, that’s what I will do next for my friends. A head to head with clm for 2015/2016/2018/2019. I have all the wines but one. Trouble is, young classic Bordeaux will be very boring for most of them. Come on by….

3/16/24, 3:38 AM - PT this should be a perfect 100 score but you know that to replicate that score now with a youthful DDC may be tricky. I would lay it down a minimum of 10 years to get that 100 score mimimum. I am trying the Sociando Mallet 16 and giving it a 93/94 score. At 40 Euros is a nice traditional blue and black fruited Bdx which is not going to win any comps but keep me happy with a good steak.

3/16/24, 8:20 AM - It will take a miracle or a wave of the hand by Jesus for this wine to ever be a triple digit potion MJ. If it does, then the good news will be that I’ll have many bottles here waiting for you my friend. Thanks for your kind advice as always! Patience is gods joke on man….and he seems to have a great sense of humor.
