March 14, 2024 - Best bottle (Belsers Restaurant, Nürtingen): Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Double decanted approx. 4h before tasting. Clear, pale golden color. Very deep, salty, zesty, fruity nose with some hints of smoke.
This bottle was interestingly all about structure and minerality. Fruit was in the back. It was very salty, very deep and dense, very phenolic and with an almost oily, mouthcoating intensity. Long and lingering finish. With a bit more fruit, this would have been perfect, but that is a first world problem. Drink now or over the next 10 years. 94

3/18/24, 1:44 AM - Thanks for the note. I am popping either this or the ‘16 soon for a tasting. Surprised with 13 years of age you double decanted 4 hours ahead, was it that closed? I was just going to double decant a little before the event.

3/18/24, 1:53 AM - Lord of the Bottles: If the bottle is properly stored since release (as mine are), it is still very young. Make a test: Popp the cork in the afternoon and take a sip. If it is overly fruity, lacks tension and mineral core, double decant. If it is dense, mineral and has great tension: Don't :)

Oh, and I would wait with my 2016 bottles for quite a while. You will be highly rewarded.
