N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Édition 168ème France, Champagne
95 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
From Magnum. Clear medium golden color. Beautiful fine, deep, complex and smoky nose with fine yeast notes. Lovely.
On the palate fresh as a daisy, beautifully balanced, elegant, nice tension, fine mousseux, long and lingering. What a great start into the evening! 94-95

White
2011 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Rheinhessen
94 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Double decanted approx. 4h before tasting. Clear, pale golden color. Very deep, salty, zesty, fruity nose with some hints of smoke.
This bottle was interestingly all about structure and minerality. Fruit was in the back. It was very salty, very deep and dense, very phenolic and with an almost oily, mouthcoating intensity. Long and lingering finish. With a bit more fruit, this would have been perfect, but that is a first world problem. Drink now or over the next 10 years. 94

White
2007 Georg Breuer Rauenthaler Nonnenberg Riesling Germany, Rheingau
94 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Poppend and poured. Clear, golden color. Beautiful fine, smoky Riesling nose at its full peak. As expected a bit sweeter, beautiful fruit and lots of crushed stones, creamy, smoky and balanced. Very dense. Long fruity and mineral finish. Such a joy to drink! This bottle was at its full peak. 94

flawed
From Magnum. Severely corked. What a pitty!

White
2018 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Hommage à Marguerite France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
93 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Unfortunately popped and poured and drunk too cold. Clear, youthful pale golden color. Balanced, muted nose that opened up at the end. On the palate at first quite boring, but with time and temperature it unfolds. Very balanced, fine mineral core, herbaceous and with some very delicate oak. Nice grip and texture. Med+ length. Needs time. 92-93+

2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
flawed
Unfortunately corked.

Red
2002 Kistler Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
86 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear, unfiltered garnet color. Ripe, fully developed Pinot nose.
On the palate it could not deny its heritage and the 14% abv. Warm, cooked fruit. Balanced and round, some chocolate notes. Tasted like a weird chocolate-cherry toffee. Not my style and no potential. 85-87

Flight 7 (1 note)

Red
2010 Château Clerc Milon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
89 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear, deep garnet color. Fine, spicy Paulliac nose. On the palate surprisingly advanced. Fine fruit, spices, herbs, blood. Nice grip, medium length. This bottle was at its peak. 89-90

Flight 8 (1 note)

Red
2010 Sadie Family Columella South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland
90 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear, deep garnet color. Very advanced nose with some lovage, warm cooked fruit and spices. On the palate fine tannin, rum pot, stewed fruit, lacks acidity and tension. Well made, but no origin or terroir. Drink now. 90-91

Flight 9 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2013 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
93 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear pale golden color. Very open, fine herbaceous nose. On the palate fresh, fine, with its notable sweetness certainly a crowd pleaser. Nevertheless very well made, nice fruit, mineral core, good length. Probably not made for the very long run. 92-93

Red
2019 Palmaz Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Decanted for about 30 min. Clear, deep inky ruby-garnet color. Youthful nose, at first with some cassis, not very clear and diffuse. With some time in the glass, all fruit was gone.
On the palate undrinkable for me due to the high and a bit drying tannin. Also lacked a bit of acidity. Certainly drunk too young, but I doubt that this wine has a bright future ahead, due the drying tannin and the lack of acidity. But what do I know... PQR is very questionable for me.

White - Sparkling
2020 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Saint-Thierry Extra Brut France, Champagne
91 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear, pale golden with a salmon hue. Fresh, youthful nose with lots of green apple, spices, funky and freaky.
On the palate very fresh, bone dry, green apple, herbs, spices. Compared to the Krug, the mousseux is very coarse and the length is not really good. Probably needs a bit more bottle age to settle down and develop complexity. 91+

White - Off-dry
2012 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
94 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Egon is Egon is Egon and never disappoints! I would have preferred drinking this bottle in 10 years from now, but this is a first world problem. Clear, pale golden color. Beautifully fine, herbaceous, fruity, mineral nose. Wonderful perfume that gets amazing with a bit of age.
On the palate the best lime fruit juice in the world! Clear as a mountain spring, fresh, tension and energy combined with a beautiful balance. Such a beautiful baby. 94++

1989 Schloss Saarstein Serriger Schloss Saarsteiner Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Auction Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
89 points
Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
Clear, deep golden amber color. Very mature, but also complex nose with honey, fruit, petrol, smoke and peat. On the palate clearly past peak, but still joyful to drink. Deep, high acidity, peat, smoke, botrytis. Creamy and balanced. Long and lingering. 88-89
