  January 27, 2010 - This bottle was tasted against a 2002 Hartwell Estate. They Caymus SS like other older 80's SS had a very bordeaux-like smell and taste. In fact, the wine didn't even begin to open until after about 45 min to an hour after decanting. It smell very musty and earthy and had the tobacco with hints of mocha on the palate. With the Hartwell, there was an elegant floral smell with a nice fruit tast but nothing overpowering on both the smell and taste. Smooth tannins and this bottle was drinking very well on this evening. The overall winner was the Hartwell. The '89 Caymus SS was now where near the '86 SS I had back 6 months ago.
