  May 19, 2011 - Lyle's dinner at Melisse, Santa Monica. Color: dark blood marrow. One of the most beautiful noses I've experienced... fragrant, expressive and continued changing. I could have smelled this wine the whole night. On first take: dried flowers, freeze-dried strawberries, mushrooms and au jus. Nose kept changing... old paperback books, leather, more mushrooms and meat drippings. Good acid, dark fruit, sleek in texture with some stemminess. A dark, brooding and muscular but graceful wine. An extremely generous surprise from our visiting friend.
