July 5, 2013 - Decanted for three hours. Very gritty and sharp upon opening, a few hours of air helps smooth things out a bit. Savory and sweet fruited nose, inherent steeliness with loads of pepper and baking spice. Super primary all rolled in with plentiful dark berry fruit. Great density and concentration with medium weight. Tannins aren't overly obtrusive, acid is fresh and the wine has great harmony within all of these elements. Less of the opulent fruit in the mouth, more of the mineral laden dark earth, creosote tobacco. Lovely wine, great value.
