  January 30, 2014 - Some bricking, which had me worried after hearing about how the 2003s are losing their fruit and fading fast. None of that here, as the bottle opened with notes of licorice, berries and smoke. "Fruit bomb" as described in a previous note is apt, with the richness of the fruit showing. Still tannic on the finish, which was long and bittersweet. "An expression of the St Julien terroir"? Not much terroir but perhaps rather representative of the hot, dry vintage at least?
