January 30, 2014 - I haven't assigned a rating to a wine on CT for years, but in this case, I just had to.

This wine is just unbelievable. It's so tightly coiled, with such incredible density, but without any sense of being heavy or over the top. It's also totally shut down and no where near being ready to drink. You can glimpse the layers of black fruits and complexity waiting to emerge in time from behind the massive mineral and tannic structure this wine possesses, but right now it's like drinking liquid iron. Easily a 50 year wine - I wonder if this could go for a century given the right cellar conditions?

1/31/14, 8:36 PM - I have 3 bottles left, and I have only dropped the perfect score twice, and had some crazy Essencia that was 99+, but I did think this was an amazing wine, just like the '96 Krug. As classic as really good Bordeaux gets. LLC never seems do disappoint, I loved their 1995, but I will never be sad to have the 3 bottles of the millennium vintage left. I didn't buy in 2005 or 2009, but may need to source some of these as well. The 2000 will open up you give it a 24 hour slow decant, but it should easily last that 50 years. I won't but it will.
