Community Tasting Note

March 29, 2015 - Was very approachable after only a 2 hour decant, and then continued to drink well over 4 more hours. While this wine is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, it seemed more lush, almost Merlot-like (in a very good way). Had a 'sweet nose' of blackberry and red fruits, mixed with smoke, floral notes, and chocolate. Impeccably balanced, though the tannins still need some integration. Presently, the nose edges out the palate. The tasting note by Panos was excellent, and highlighted something very important with this wine -- the excellent oak management. There is just enough oak there to add another layer of interest to the wine. Another thing to note is that many 2009 Bordeaux wines seem to be so approachable right now (in contrast to many I've tried from 2010). This Calon Segur is obviously going to improve with 5+ years in the cellar, but don't hesitate to try it now if you have a case, and especially if you don't mind drinking young Bordeaux from time to time.

3/29/15, 7:53 PM - Thanks DrinkBordeaux, this is an excellent and exceedingly helpful tasting note. Just to clarify, when you say drank over four hours; was that post decanting or did you pour a crafty glass to sip whilst the rest of the bottle sat in the decanter? cheers, chatters.

I apologize that my note was a tad ambiguous -- it does appear a little confusing, so I'll go ahead and edit it. Cheers!
