May 1, 2015 - This is great stuff. Layers of flavors plus a silky depth that seems even more refined than Cailloux of past. Just an amazing depth to my palate, perfect for savoring.

9/6/15, 2:24 PM - Hi Radboy-I do not know why-but it took three days for mine to open up. Once it did-the best to state it is a simple WOW! Dave

9/6/15, 5:54 PM - One if these days, when I get discipline, I am going to do the two to three day drinking window. I should probably have a second bottle open to keep my palate wet while the Cayuse evolves. Someday...

9/6/15, 6:15 PM - Well actually what happened was it was undrinkable when I opened it up at a party. A good friend of mine stated not to waste it that night. So I threw it in a decanter. Forgot about it for almost two days. Took a sip late the second day and could tell it was just starting to come around. Day three-a no brainer-drank the entire bottle slowly drifting in and out of reality as the nose and taste were beyond my wildest dreams. My goodness how can a wine deliver so many different flavors with each new sip. Wow-what an experience.

9/6/15, 6:20 PM - That is pretty damn funny! It makes me want to wait a few years before I crack another.

9/6/15, 6:53 PM - All I can say-on day three it was incredible. My wife says I almost go into a trance. That is almost. Please remember I am not well heeled or whatever the term is- but have enough money to do some things. The reason I am stating this as my next comment may make me sound wealthy and I am not in the league. Last year a group of friends and my wife and I went to Portugal. At Graham's they had a 1953 single vineyard tawny port you could try and buy a bottle. Still kicking myself for not buying a bottle. For a ridiculous price of $70 you got a small glass. Since I was the only one that bought it-they were kind enough to give everyone at our table a small serving. It blew me away. Everyone at the table tasted it and talked. Yikes! So they laughed as they knew what I was about to do. I found a corner in the room-closed my eyes and marveled at the incredible delicate nuances of different flavors that traveled back and forth across my palate. I did not even realize someone snuck up and took a picture. My wife indicates I must have a lot of extra taste buds. To me it is normal-some wines are so spectacular-one must be in a quiet state concentrating on every nuance. How often does this happen to me if you average it out. Once every three years. ---Dave

9/7/15, 6:11 AM - Now that is love Dave! Great story. I have had several wine epiphanies as well. We made it over to Seattle once for Taste Washington, or some other such big event. They were pouring a very old, and very small, taste of a Tokay Azsu Essencia. Pouring from a moldy looking bottle that looked like it was dug from your garden, 15 years later I still can taste the lovely floral and caramel and nut flavors of this exquisite wine. Liquid baclava in a glass. Better than sex...well some sex anyways! Cheers, Steve

9/7/15, 7:43 AM - Hi Steve-Flew out to Seattle 21 times as my best friend since 4th grade moved out there. As of last year he is no longer with us-but wow did we eat at great restaurants. Did you happen to take a picture of the bottle? Would love to see that. Agree with sex part:)

9/7/15, 11:07 AM - Sorry I don't have a picture. It was back in the pre-cell phone days. It was quite remarkable looking. Truly dug out of a cellar in Europe.
Here is a toast to those who went before us. Cheers.

9/7/15, 11:15 AM - Joining you in that toast-Cheers. You know Radboy people who go nuts over wine like ourselves must have more taste buds and a keener sense of smell-at least in regards to wine. In fact I just read an article about people who really get into wine do have more taste buds.

The following has only happened a couple times in my life-the latest being last week. I pulled up to a stop sign and waited for the signal to turn red. Suddenly I got a whiff of a symphony of smells. I detected eggs being cooked, tar being laid somewhere, grass being cut, a dryer using those added towelettes, a pizza being cooked and a bed of flowers. I felt like a damn dog. However I marveled at the different layers of smell. This has only happened to me a couple times before-but I would love to know what creates that brief event of super smell. Obviously the smells have to be near me for it to work-but a most strange experience indeed. (I better look in the mirror-if I have long flappy ears I am in big trouble:) Dave

    9/17/15, 3:52 PM - Hi Radboy,
Don't know if I can holdout but would like to wait until 2017-and after my shipment of wine that year-to crack open my second bottle of 2010. When I am down in the wine cellar it sure calls out my name. I have to remember it took three days to come around for the first bottle. Do you have any 2010's left?

  • Radboy commented:

9/17/15, 7:04 PM - Fortunately I do. I was an early Cayuse fan so I have a nice stash. But I am still waiting at least another year! I have only tasted GOK and En Cerise from that vintage. But I need to start sampling! Be strong, or make sure you have a 3 day weekend for your next bottle;)

9/17/15, 7:21 PM - Hi Radboy-Interestingly I am having a discussion with someone else regarding wines from Cayuse. For the fun of it I looked up my 2010 on Parker. The second review just this June changed the drinking date by 5 years! Now the starting date is 2018. That seems to go along with what I experienced. Dave

    10/26/15, 6:31 PM - Hi Radboy,
If you remember it took three days for this bottle to open up 10 months ago. Do you think two days of decanting would help this bottle out? (Please note: These bottles came to me just last year as they replaced the bottles I had. Opened one up and it was the color of a pink rĂ²se-sent me three new bottles-shipped the other two back) Dave

10/26/15, 6:48 PM - You have the Cayuse itch, do you lad? Ha! I would give it 1-3 more years of aging or decant atleast 4 hours, preferably the former! But many folks love it at the 5 year mark and I loved it as is. I have never made it through a 24 hour decant as I always figured it was just too damn young. But considering your past experience, and your palate, what the hell. But I have 11 bottles left from my case and will wait until next year (or the holidays) for a second bottle. I usually use the 5-9 year mark for Cailloux, but this was a big one but a great one. I bet it will be good either way:) Keep me posted. Have you ever had Reynvaan? Me thinks it is drinkable at an earlier stage in general. If not, stock up while you can still get some. Cheers, Steve

10/26/15, 7:40 PM - Yes-thIs lad has the Cayuse itch-partly because I have a party coming up. Might just leave this sit for a couple more years. So Cayuse offers you a case? I must have been a bad boy in my youth. Only allowed three a year:)

  • Radboy commented:

10/26/15, 8:08 PM - Don't let me dissuade you, I gave it 95 points! My comment is more reflective of your past experience of having to decant so long than anything. But I think it is just starting to hit its prime and have some others in my stash while I wait. As for allocation, I was fortunate to get in starting with the '99 vintage. Nothing clever other than getting greedy early!

  • Radboy commented:

    10/26/15, 8:09 PM - I think X Ray's review nails it.

  • vintage1949 commented:

10/27/15, 7:42 PM - Thanks for the comments------greedy-no-very smart on your end. Will check his comments. Dave
