October 25, 2015 - La Fête du Bordeaux (Park Hyatt, Chicago): Medium-dark rosewood color. Ample nose of planed wood with a slightly sweet and toasty aroma, a residual wisp of sous bois, and a slightly green stem smell. The palate, by comparison, is still tightly held in the grip of constricting tannins, giving up little. This finishes plenty strong, with the tannins turning grainy at the back of the tongue. Any thoughts I had of opening my remaining bottle of this will have to wait until 2025 at the earliest.

10/27/15, 5:44 PM - Thanks for your note and rating. Very useful as we have some bottles in the cellar that we plan to let sit for quite a few more years. Your description confirms the same!

2/29/16, 8:11 PM - The CT dates say not to "start" drinking this wine until it is 25 years old, but then you have another 70 years to finish your remaining bottles.
I sure hope they are correct, but that just seems crazy risky!

3/1/16, 11:17 AM - Good research. Having said that, we can confidently confirm 70 years is not likely for us...unless science really discovers the fountain of youth. 25 year old, i.e. 2030, might work, but we doubt our patience - a tempting virtue - will overcome our desire. We are thinking 2020 to give the first bottle a twirl. We have another for 2030...if we can (can you feel us quaking?) ;-)

3/6/16, 9:15 AM - 70+ years sounds like a stretch, but then again the tasting notes for the 1925 and 1945 Château Figeac on CellarTracker seem to indicate that these vintages are still enjoyable. The nice thing about Bordeaux is there's usually plenty of it around if you're willing to pay. If I revisit this in 2025 and it changes my life, I'll certainly be able to find another bottle at auction.
