Community Tasting Note

  • galenico Does not like this wine: 89 points

November 24, 2015 - 50 ANNI AIS PIEMONTE (TORINO MUSEO DELL' AUTOMOBILE): Naso invintante, solare, molto bucolico. Fragoline di bosco e finocchietto selvatico. Purtroppo la bocca non è minimamente all' altezza del Cascina Francia: ingolfata dal legno e dal tannino grossolano.

12/1/15, 12:55 AM - Thanks for your note and rating. Sounds like the aromas were perfect, but the palate was far from what you would have expected. Very, very sad to read. Do you think, perhaps, she is not ready to sip?

12/1/15, 1:00 AM - Thank you for your appreciation. I never drank this vintage before, so I cannot tell you if it was a dull phase or just the vintage.
Conterno's barolo usually has physiological shut-down periods, and blossoms after 10 years in bottle.
Anyway I suggest you to try the terrific 2008!!

12/1/15, 1:06 AM - Great, thanks, we agree G. Conterno does close down for a while so who knows. We will look out for the 2008...grazie!

12/1/15, 1:14 AM - Take care because the 2008 is in a closed phase now. Monfortino 2008 still blossoms, and is amazing, but will follow the Francia in a dumb phase for at least 10 years. Anyway the 2008s are incredible stuff!
and also look for Giuseppe Cortese new release: the Barbaresco Rabajà Riserva 2008, a top class Barbaresco and one of the best bargains nowadays in Langhe!!
