December 12, 2015 - Exclusive dinner with eight friends and 22 special wines.: Tasted this wine for the first time at the “Matter of Taste” tasting in London in February earlier this year and I was so impressed that I bought two bottles. Tonight I brought this to a dinner/tasting and I think it was the WOTN for everybody. The bouquet luxurious and lush with beautiful oak, beautifully ripe dark forest fruits and some mint. On the palate luxurious and lush as well with the same dark berries and perfectly integrated oak and cedar, licorice, sweet spices and chocolate. Beautiful acidity, round tannin with a pleasant and soft bite and a great length. A feast now and a long life ahead. Really beautiful and harmonious. Will try to save my last bottle for 2025 or later. 98 – 99

12/17/15, 12:41 PM - ZWEDER: Was the wine decanted prior to serving? If so, for how long? I am contemplating serving this wine to our Christmas dinner guests.....thanks for any assistance in this matter.

    Merry Christmas!

12/17/15, 4:34 PM - G: Lucky dinner guests :-)!! Yes the wine was decanted; approx 4 – 5 hours before serving. A few hours longer will not hurt either. This wine only will make your Christmas dinner a feast!
Merry Christmas to you as well!
P.S. Had a quick look at your collection ;-) It makes me jealous…… Quite a few notes of me about several wines….(And I have a weak spot for Araujo Eisele as well ;-))
    Cheers,
    Zweder.

12/18/15, 7:34 AM - Having 36 for Christmas dinner, so I will probably need to decant more than just my half-case of '05 Lokoya!

We enjoyed visiting the winery back in Sept. '13 and have been buying copious amounts of Lokoya and Cardinale since--our good fortune.

    Cheers

Wondering how your Chrismas dinner was and what you thought of the wine. Cheers, Z.

1/13/16, 1:17 PM - Z- Our Christmas dinner was really wonderful, thanks. It was a tremendous lot of work for my wife, but enjoyed by all of our family gathered--ended up 34 people.

We served a main course of tenderloin of beef, carmelized pearl onions, 'burnt' brussell sprouts w/ pancetta, spinach souffle with artichoke hearts and roasted fingerling potatoes.

The '05 Lokoya was decanted for approx. 4.5 hrs (as you suggested) and was drinking absolutely beautifully...better than I recall it from a couple of years back. It complemented the beef extremely well.

The nose was dark fruits and some oak accompanied by a subtle violet note. The palate was one of lush red fruit, floral-inflected, sandalwood and just a hint of brown spice.

We served a '77 Graham Vintage Porto as a post-prandial treat which had been decanted for approx. 18 hrs and was a fine capper to the days' gustatorial excesses.

Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2016

1/13/16, 4:29 PM - Thank you for your reply! Sounds like a great dinner and nice to hear the wine performed well :-). And Graham’s 1977 Vintage Port is not a punishment either ;-).
Of course my best wishes to you and your loved ones for a wonderful and healthy 2016 as well, with hopefully a lot of wonderful wines.
