March 22, 2017 - New Zealand Pinot Noir Tasting (Oinoscent): 58% Pinot Noir - 42% Chardonnay, L2012, 24 months aged on lees
Nice fresh nose, citrus, yeast, ripe fruit, some oak notes, lighter than champagne, nice acidity, the palate shows lime, lemon, citrus, easy, for food and on its own, smooth carbonation, med finish. Nice wine to start a meal

9/22/17, 8:38 AM - Rudi, the winemaker, is a friend of mine but this is made by his wife, who grew up in a French Champagne-making family, which is why it is so well-made. Rudi wryly called this 'our insurance' when they first bought the land to make their own wines because he knew it would sell well even if his experiment with Pinot Noir was a failure (which it happily wasn't). Lovely people.
