September 27, 2017 - Now this is precisely why one should never drink a Dunn under 10 years of age.
This wine is absolutely brilliant now.
Lots of grainy sediment so decanting is a must.

Still vibrant, great structure, velvety to slightly grainy tannins. Medium tannins, medium acidity, medium fruit. All in balance.
Ripe, almost stewed red fruits, cassis, some tar, leather, some garden herbs, and a wee bit of stoney minerality. Great complexity. Only qualm is the slight jamminess feel on the finish. But what a long finish.

Drank on its own. No food. Why pollute the purity of taste.Beautiful wine.

10/8/17, 10:19 PM - Just picked up a 2004 Dunn Howell Mountain in Washington state this weekend. Do you think some air or decant is necessary? I plan to open it by year end. Thanks, Darren.

10/9/17, 1:11 PM - definitely give this wine a decant and let aerate for at least an hour or so ..... but taste over that time to determine your own sweet spot for the wine. Great wine though. Hope you enjoy yours.

10/9/17, 9:51 PM - Thanks. I've had some older California cabs that really didn't need too much air, and some that needed two days! Nice to get a good opinion ahead of time. Thanks! I'll let you know how it was.
