September 28, 2017 - Decanted. Now 1.5h in decanter. Initially, strong reductive match-stick aromas that dominates. Tart red and black berries, earth and herbs. This is in a Schott Zwiesel Tritan Forte Zinfandel/Universal glass. In a Gabriel Gold glass, aromas are more prominent, black berries, and some earth. Black and blue berries, earth, herbs, and moderate tannins on midpalate. A bit rounder and more bass notes than in Tritan glass. Nice finish. In a Zalto Universal glass, shy aromas of blue and blackberries and earth. Palate cuts the difference between Tritan and Gabriel gold glasses. Blue and blackberries with more acid than Gabriel gold. Earth, herbs and tannins come in on the midpalate. The best balance of the 3 glasses. Nice finish recapitulating the palate with nice length. I lean toward the Zaltos for the best balance but fascinating still. For rating of the wine, Tritan 89, Gabriel Gold 90, Zalto 91. Finallly, I think this tastes pretty young and would benefit from more bottle age. But this is my last bottle. So it goes.
