November 15, 2017 - A marvelous wine and a true grand experience. The 2005 James Berry Syrah blend delivers a lovely nose full of dark mature fruit, morellos, violets, the classical Asian spice box and last by not least rich dark chocolate. Adding to this is a close to profound minerality with crushed wet granite as the number one hallmark. After some time in the glass complexity increases and a secondary layer of subtle saddle leather and sunny summer meadow emerges. This is a nose to die for. The palate continues along this first class trajectory with balance and integration as keywords. Perhaps the acidity is a bit understated tonight but the overall texture and structure tell me this wine will last for yet a number of years if cellared properly. With a length on the finish lasting a minute or more, there is very little else to wish for in this lovely effort. A true joy and certainly a true gem! (score is 98+)

11/18/17, 7:17 AM - Great review in the 2005 Saxum James Berry. Opened a bottle last night and I also gave this a 98. My review is not as articulate as yours... But I think we are saying the same thing...
