January 28, 2018 - 1995 Bordeaux / Cali Cabernet Tasting (Casa de la Mata): Served blind in a 95 Cali/Bdx tasting. Fairly primary and un-evolved nose of plums with notions of herb and tobacco. Tighter with good concentration and still-firm tannins. With time this started to reveal more and flesh out. And according to others at the tasting, it was firing on all cylinders later in the evening. My #4, Group #2 in the flight. Needs even more time.

7/10/18, 10:40 PM - Thank you for sharing your note! You put together a nice lineup and I am glad that you enjoyed the wines! I am generally cautious with 1995 Left Banks as many I have tried under-performed, and I recently had a very disappointing experience with the 1995 LB which was tight upon opening, disharmonious, unrewarding and drying towards the end. Decanting (and in my case also drinking over a period of three days) helped the wine to open up, but it also resulted in the wine feeling a little thin from day two. Another 1995 let-down and not up to the usual LB standards to me. Generalizing, to me the 1995 Bordeaux are tricky. As for the LB, I'd always pay the 10% markup for the 2000 and skip the 1995. But it seems that you made better experiences with 1995s?
