January 26, 2019 - This was ok today. it has good acidity but seems a little oxidized and tired. has that butterscotch thing beginning. drink unless you dig butterscotch. i was disappointed by this one. others enjoyed.

1/28/19, 8:48 AM - 2014 Chidaine's are widely flawed and prematurely oxidized. Not sure what went wrong in what should have been a stellar vintage. I'm not buying Chidaine wines anymore at this time due to this phenomenon.

2/5/19, 3:03 PM - I have talked to several folks who blame the vintage not the vintner on this one....i agree with you that these should be better, but not quite ready to throw baby out with bathwater. glad to hear that it wasn't just me tho :)

2/5/19, 7:48 PM - I can’t imagine why that would be. 2014 was a very good (almost perfect) vintage for whites in the Loire. I’ve had some very good wines from that vintage. I haven’t encountered prematurely oxidized wines from any other producer either. I’m not claiming to have tasted particularly extensively, but from what I hear the most people I know it’s a problem that seems to be solely on Chidaine.

2/6/19, 7:38 AM - I agree with your perspective. someone close to the importer intimated to me that "they had some difficulties with 2014". i am not sure what they meant, but whatever it was is showing in the wine for sure. I have had more recent stuff from them and not seen any sign of premature oxidation, but admittedly these would have been younger. worth caution for sure

2/7/19, 6:29 AM - Ah, gotcha, you meant a problem with Chidaine in the vintage, not that the vintage generally caused the problem. That is quite possible, I remember Huet had a problem with premature oxidation in I think '02, another excellent vintage, and it's been a much rarer subject of discussion for their wines since (though maybe not entirely absent). It's still worrying to me as I bought quite a few from Chidaine in '14 and almost all have been massively flawed. Maybe if there were a good explanation from the domaine I could be more at ease but for now I'll just not buy them and make sure it's not a recurring problem. Just too much good wine out there for me to risk the money and time investment on wines that could be so flawed. Even in white Burgs if you drink them very young they tend to be safe, but here the problems were apparent very early.
