December 24, 2006 - i took this to a small dinner party after church last night, and because of the travel involved, i didn't have an opportunity to decant. however, i was able to maintain a good serving temperature. once opened, the moths were drawn to the flame, and the bottle didn't last too long. i did get almost a full glass as point of personal privilege, and i sipped it over an hour. the aroma of the bottle filled the kitchen, literally. i hadn't tasted this wine in about a year, and i thought it wood be, oops, would be (subliminal influence?) more open. there is a good amount of oak and tannin to be resolved. undoubtedly, decanting was called for, yet i get the sense that you are better off holding this wine a bit at this still toddler stage. it's certainly a full bodied, delicious, if not somewhat boring, example of insignia. or, maybe i'm just getting a little bored with cabernet in general, who knows? from memory, the blend is 78% cab + merlot, petite verdot, and malbec (no cab franc).
