April 27, 2019 - Bottle 5 of a six pack purchased on release and stored properly.

I knew this bottle was done 10 seconds into a Coravin pour- the color was reminiscent of a pale Tavel !

Filled the glass and no aromas and nothing left on the palate. No evidence it was corked- just nothing- suggesting there was a problem with bottling or its just too old?

Puzzling as I have had stunning examples up to 2 years ago.

Would be interested in anyone else's experience with this.

4/28/19, 5:17 AM - I have had bottles of the 2001 that were quite good. There is a reputation for the wine in general to be very “Bretty” and while it can usually have the typical “barnyard” effect it can sometimes do what you experienced and just kill the wine, depending upon the strain of Brettanomyces that is present. That would be my guess...

    Cheers!

4/29/19, 8:07 AM - I have had the same with other vintages around this one but generally all good with 2001. Probably some bottle variation. I have found that a long decant gets rid of the stewed prune like old flavour this wine can display and the last two bottles I had were fantastic after a three hour airing.
