Community Tasting Note

May 17, 2019 - Opened 3 hours earlier and decanted prior to pouring. Fine, light sediment. Ruby almost to the rim with little fading. Captivating aromas of orange peel, fennel, brown spice, and tobacco that just continued to expand. Medium body with a strong, consistent vein of soil throughout. As was the case the last time I had this, that citrus is indelibly etched and trumps any more traditional red or black fruit. Fabulous soil infused feel with perfect enlivening acidity that also penetrates and persists. Not terribly tannic, the shape here is provided by the acidity. I would guess that at age 15, this is just reaching an initial peak with secondary and tertiary nuance yet to come. Wonderful synthesis of power and subtlety. The undecanted remainder with the sediment showed more of the tobacco leaf that was apparent on the nose.

More somber, leathery, tarry, tannic, and chewy the next day, now presenting itself as more old style Barolo. The citrus note is still there in the nose, but less so on the palate.
