October 11, 2019 - Good lord, where to begin?? First, avoid any impression before allowing 60+ minutes after a decant. Both you and the wine will appreciate it. A complex nose of earth, olive, meats, dark fruit. The initial attack is commensurately complex and bountiful. I once read that anyone who suggests more than 5 notes is either faking it or very talented. This wine tests that. Bacon, truffle, forest floor, cassis, spice. As I took a second sip I could not help but think that this wine is a meal unto itself. Pair it accordingly. We were dining on grilled steaks and pork burnt ends. The second sip leads to a third, to a fourth, each time leaving you wondering just what else is going on with this wine. And just as you think you have it all, you notice a very light, delicate sweetness develop mid-palate. The finish is long and flavorful. The structure suggests that life in the cellar remains; but why? She's fully developed and waiting for you to unwrap all that she has to offer.
