October 15, 2019 - Found in Mountlouis-sur-Loire for essentially U.S. release pricing, which made the purchase a no-brainer. Seductive terroir and deft blending have wrought an enthralling wine, even if somewhat rustic by Margaux standards. The Merlot, purportedly 25 percent of the blend, harmonizes seamlessly with the 70 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and five percent Petit Verdot. Indeed, that the wine retains a certain red fruited (raspberry) character gives testament to the Merlot's exceptional quality. This noted, the Cabernet Sauvignon is no slouch, delivering a powerful frame of medium plus to high acid (enhanced by the Merlot) and medium plus tannin, bolstered by the Petit Verdot. The absence of obtrusive oak allows the place and assemblage to work magic.

Tannins were a touch less bracing than in July 2018; the textures ever more intriguing. An underlying vein of velvety 'sweet' red fruit puts the mind to Raspberry and Lingonberry liqueur. A wine of layered substance, while still a touch edgy, in a positive way. Delicious now, but it will be better once it integrates more fully. If I had several bottles I would open one every three years to follow what will be a delightfully informative maturation curve. High QPR for Third Growth Margaux. 94-96.
