December 27, 2019 - Friday Tasting Group: "Killer Bar" (#06 for me) (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: A bit of funk, certainly forest floor, with other unparsables; ATTRACTIVE

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent PUCKER which pretty much works itself out by the very LONG, balanced finish with a TANGY/swtness (60:40) to the firming, but innocuous, very, VERY fine tannins. For now with food, & MIGHT have the stuffing to hold towards the LATTER part of the 2020's (even WITH food), though I'd doubt improvement with further cellaring. 12.5% ABV; My Exceptional- (96,97/100 using that metric).

12/30/19, 11:41 AM - "Your experience with this wine was pretty different than other folks on CT recently." Yes, PhillyVine2112, & off the top of my head I can't recollect ever being 180° in the OPPOSITE direction from the *unanimity* of fellow CT contributors. :( As a result, I briefly considered not posting my impressions, 'cept: 1) They were my honest responses, in NO way meant to dis any of the previous respondents; 2) My positive evaluation was corroborated by the bottle's contributor, who I know from past experience WILL dis 1 of his *own* wines; 3) Though I've reason to believe ALL the recent CT TNs may have been of bottles from the same secondary source, dealing with bottles of THIS age is notoriously dicey.

I can't be precisely sure HOW this particular bottle was managed prior to serving. As #19/20 in the flight [Cf. the blue Tasting Story link @ the top] of which we ea rec'd but SMALL pours, I suspect it was a PnP from a bottle that had likely been setting upright for a wk or so. Also, I'm thinking my pour was in a small tasting glass ≈30 min before I got to it. However, IF I obtain addt'l clarification I'll post it here.

Finally, though today apparently a negociant label, back in the day "...there was a Domaine Charles Noellat for quite some time, having thrived with its fine terroir until it was sold to none other than Lalou Bize-Leroy back in 1988, helping form the backbone of Domaine Leroy," the family apparently keeping rights to the name. [From a Wine Exchange blurb] So, at least @ the time of THIS bottling, Charles Noellat was a "known" producer.
