February 21, 2020 - No score. Saw lots of great notes and decided to test drive. Coravined about half a bottle into a decanter, rest for later. After 30 min, nose of vanilla and blackberry/blueberry pie. Still very primary. Somewhat tannic and very restrained but perceived recognized potential. Touch of saline and red fruit, mineral and earthiness. Blind I would have picked western Oakville or St Helena valley floor, restrained type wine (Spott would have been in the mix but the ripeness would have likely sent me guessing somewhere else with a classical winemaker).

My palate absolutely loves Spottswoode at 10+ years, this ain’t that. It’s not an over ripe fruit bomb, but it is a hot year in 2015, and she hasn’t put on her make-up yet so she ain’t ready.

Not WA100 now or in the next few years, but when this comes together put up the flag ‘cause it will be great. If you have plenty, give it a go if you’re curious ... otherwise hold ‘til 2025 for your first check in.

Post script at 2 hrs post decant: much/all of the flabbiness has disappeared leaving a sophisticated bramble fruited French BDX lady with earthy tones walking the streets of St Helena. Confusing? Yes. Like a high class escort in the red light district. Out of place, but oh so harmonious. Mrs. Geaux hates the anology but totally gets it as she finished what I had hoped to! Dammit, 97 if I were giving out points !

2/21/20, 4:02 PM - Great note! I keep looking at my Spottswoode and wondering when I should dig in. Spottswoode definitely tests my patience, but, the rewards can be fantastic.

6/6/20, 8:17 AM - Great note! I found a '16 on sale at $190. How's it compared to '15 if you have tried both?

6/6/20, 9:15 AM - I have not had the ‘16 so can’t compare, but if I didn’t have mine slumbering away, I would jump on $190.
