Community Tasting Note

April 30, 2020 - Dark reddish purple with an aromatic nose of aged fruits, wild game funkiness, moist soil and lots of earthy characteristics with slight yet ever so pleasant oxidative element. The palate is very soft, smooth and silk, very well integrated and balanced, very dry yet unmistakably New World right bank Bordeaux-style Blend and on the lower end of the full-bodied spectrum. Flavors of dark red and blue fruits, seamlessly complimented with notes of dried herbs, wet leaves on the forest, wild gamey meat, an ever so slight yet noticeable vanilla oak, wet loam, and a flash of Gimblett Gravels minerality towards the finish. The alcohol is hardly discernible now and very much improved in may ways since I last had this back in ’16. A richly nuanced and sensual Kiwi red that is at its apex. Sipping and savoring this deep wine in a cool dark night while listening to “Aerial Boundaries” by late great Michael Hedges is as cerebral and aesthetically sublime as it gets.
