June 25, 2020 - This is a Chardonnay (quite pure) from very old vines, low yield, in a somewhat neglected portion of the Chuy vineyards, a historically interesting dry-farmed vineyard in Napa. I tasted the wine in the summer of 2019. It was light in color in an off-dry style, like a Chablis, yet with a really interesting chardonnay character. Stylistically, this reminds me strongly of the Arnot Roberts or Sandlands Chardonnay whites -- the opposite of your buttery, woody, exotically ripe California image, yet still soft and persistent on the palate. Among European producers, if you know Verget's wines, you might not be surprised to find this in the lineup. A one-time wine: the vineyard was replanted after this harvest.
