August 14, 2020 - PNP and consumed over 4+ hours; dark red to purplish color; the initial nose and palate were both somewhat closed; after a little while, blue and black fruit rose to the forefront, with streaks of bitter cocoa and graphite; then some plum, baking spice and light herbs and dust; the longer the wine was open, the more dominant the fruit became; tannins were finely grained and firm but they didn't overpower the fruit and tertiary flavors; great acidity rounded everything out nicely.
This was not a newer-world, extracted wine, but rather one in which the winemaker wanted to showcase the quality of the grape. There is quite a bit of structure here as it did take a little while for the palate to really present itself, but after only an hour or two of air, the wine was shining, presenting the purity of the fruit.
