September 3, 2020 - Virtual Single Blind ABC Wines (Home): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Poured into jars for transport at 4:30pm and then tranferred to the various locals. I poured this last hoping to preserve the bubbles as much as possible. This was something of a test to see how a 5 oz pour of a Tete de Cuvee would hold up to transport being well sealed in a 6 oz jar. Since I was "hosting" my wine did not have to travel. However, I was still late to my own party so to speak and was scrambling to get my wines out and started. The talk was about how few bubbles there were on this. Now in my case, the bubbles were still moderate on pouring into glass (once I had the correct wine, but that's a long story), but they did seem to fade fairly quickly. The theory was that the jostling of driving them around may have had some impact.

At any rate, this was really quite nice, albeit clearly young. I expected as much, but given how spectacular the '95 was, I really wanted to check this out and see where it was and what kind of potential there might be. There is a fair bit of yeast and bread dough, not really any toastiness at this point; mainly green apple and pear notes, a little nuttiness, and a good streak of minerality, fairly creamy texture and prominent acidity. Very poised and classy. I'm not quite sure this will live up to the '95, but hey, the '95 didn't blow me away at first either. It was fairly similar to this actually - so hopefully that bodes well for the long haul. I probably won't open another for 3 to 5 years. Currently 93(+)pts.

9/23/20, 6:19 PM - A very interesting note/experiment. Do you think the jar you transported it in wasn’t airtight?

Which would you prefer to have, this wine or an 06’ Comtes? I have a bit more to spend. Thx!

9/23/20, 7:58 PM - The '04 Blancs des Millenaires is still tight and young. The '06 is simply glorious already. It took down an '02 Krug and '06 Billecart CNF the other night. At least for my tastes it is hard to beat. Maybe one day the '04 comes close, but I'd take the '06 Comte all day long, variety aside.

9/23/20, 11:33 PM - Wow. Impressive. The Comtes sure is building a solid resume. I think I have my answer and will go with more of the 06’ CdC. Much appreciated.
