January 5, 2009 - Not decanted. First impression was a fragrant musky scent - it reminded of me of a dishcloth(!)- however thankfully this soon lifted to reveal a fine, perfumed nose with a herbal, fresh overtone to dark fruits, tobacco and coal smoke beneath. If the nose hadn't already betrayed the pedigree, the palate certainly did: the tannins were youthful but so perfectly smooth and fine, so rich in texture and flavour, that the whole experience was seamless. Still, it took a little concentration to eek out everything this wine had to offer - it is still a little understated. Time will tell what more is to come.
