May 11, 2021 - Napa 2021 Trip; 5/10/2021-5/13/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): The flagship now contains LPV, Dr Crane, Weitz, Oakville Ranch, and now VHR in its 2018 blend. I think tasting next to the 2014 flagship, this showed more complexity due to the addition of VHR. It's still tightly wound, and I found the single vineyard VHR poured alongside this to have a better showing. Give this one a few years, or a healthy decant now. Same rating/notes as my first bottle tasted last month for Easter festivities.

5/16/21, 12:10 PM - Sean, on another thread we learned that MM uses Block 4 & 7 from VHR in the wine. The benchland block 4 may be just what was need to add structure to this bottling. It would be interesting to know which percentage of barrels make of the estate bottling. Assuming at the end the SVD are blended together and not co-fermented.

    7/22/21, 3:30 AM - Greetings,
How long of a decant does this wine need? Dave

7/22/21, 5:39 AM - I think both MM's I've had from 2018 (flagship and VHR) needed a minimum of 6 hours. These are going to be great wines!

When do you think this wine will reach its peak? Dave

7/23/21, 7:48 AM - I think 2018s in general are just opening up now (after a lengthy slumber for some with their releases almost a year ago). I think in 5 years this will be great. I haven't had enough experience with older MMs to know how they track over time, but that's my best guess.

Thanks for your best guess. I will open my first bottle in three years because of my age. Dave
