June 21, 2021 - The 2018 UGCB tasting Amsterdam 6/21/2021 (Amsterdam, Amstel Boathouse): From nose to finish absolutely lovely. hints of mocha, but missing the complexity and the refined dimensions of Léoville-Barton, but, for sure, a very good L-P.

Reading through your notes it seems LB is your benchmark. Is that in all years or just at this tasting? Hells to understand your notes even better.
Thank you! -

Léoville-Barton is not my benchmark, however I notice that L-B gives every year a bit more excitement. Tasting 70 wines at the UGCB tasting I've noticed that some wines as Haut-Bailly, Canon, L-B and S H-L gave me the most pleasure

6/26/21, 3:04 AM - Dear Mark1npt,
I advice a bouble decanting for a very young wine of this level.
One, let's say 6-8 hours before tasting and one an hour before tasting and a free tip, start serving the wine at appr. 16+ degrees C. This vintage has a lot of alcohol and it helps the wine by masking it a bit.
Greetings,

6/26/21, 4:50 AM - Frans, I appreciated your decanting wisdom! I do usually gives the young ones a good 6-8 hours of air, sometimes sampling every hour or two. Some i will let sit at room temp as I find my palate can appreciate more of the flavors. Chilling does indeed mask a high alcohol wine a bit but for me it also mutes some of the intensity of the flavors. Cheers!
