August 4, 2021 - OK I have to accept now that I have a bad batch. Apparently in the mid-90s there was a huge amount of bottle variation and the quality wasn't always there. This bottle was as per my last 2 notes (from 2012 and 2018), just fairly poor, dominated by the acidity without the complexity or joy it should have provided. Oh well

If it makes you feel any better I've had exactly the same experience with Krug 1996. 50% of my bottles were not off but certainly flat vs. expectation; of the remainder, only a subset hit the high notes consistent with the vintage's reputation (but hit them they did).

It makes me think of pox risk with white burgundy from the era. It's annoying to discover similar phenomena in other wines, let alone Krug!

    Onward! Drink forth!
