November 22, 2021 - Drank next to an 18 Accendo. Thankfully provided by my friend Brad for this tasting. Clearly infanticide, but also very fun and interesting. Both wines were given 3 hours of air after a double decant, and then 3 additional hours during the tasting. And yes, I must apologize to Shae for explicitly going against her guidance. :)

Even now, at nowhere near maturity, this is an amazing wine. Aromas are more rustic than the Accendo, with underbrush, herbs, blackberries, chargrill and fragrant earth. The palate is the very definition of full bodied, but thankfully not because it is extracted or fruity. It is black fruited, beastly and shows a brooding core of wonderfully ripe fruit with massive savory elements, hemmed in by huge, yet fine grained tannins. At times you feel like you are eating this wine it's so packed and stacked full of absolute goodness. The layers peel back slowly as time goes by, revealing even more earthy character, illustrating the complexity that is not only to come, but present now. The finish is huge and never ending.

As I mentioned in my note on the Accendo, this is the King Kong to Accendo's James Bond. It's a beast that gives you way more savory character, perhaps without quite the same level of regal refinement. They are both incredibly good, and which you prefer will likely be based on your palate preference. I could drink them both all day long. Two of the best 18's I've had.

11/22/21, 11:19 PM - I really enjoyed the 18 Anjea as well. I actually preferred it to the 18 Rhad and Voleuse because it seemed more open and giving when the other 2 were more tight and compact.

11/23/21, 5:34 AM - Love the more savory leaning wines these days. Shae mentioned Nige leans that direction so it pairs well with food. I have zero regrets loading up on these to drink over the next 20+ years. I'm already starting to wonder what the 19's will hold...

Damn, I have my three pack of each wine downstairs waiting to go to the offsite. I was going to let these take a cat nap for a half decade, but now I'm tempted to take one of these out for a spin.

    Hmmmm, decisions, decisions...

11/23/21, 5:34 PM - @ MJP I agree that I really enjoy the savory wines now. I would look at the 18 continuum. Super savory and well done.

@blarmston Let them rest. They need quite a bit of time. However, if you do open one I would recommend the Anjea. Seemed the most open to me at least.
