January 15, 2022 - This time I drank this alone, and it was more interesting than my last recollection of drinking this. Its still underdevloped and rather rich in fruit, but it lacks complexity. If 2009 is an indication of where PC style was headed, this would explain what was going on in 08's new world aspirations. Deep red, lush, warm and spicy, slight notes of pencils and pen ink, and a sturdy backbone. I dont know what you can do with this, but I am not sad that this was my very last bottle. As enjoyable as a good 60+ dollar napa cab. Drink I guess....

    * PS_IMO@ the cost of 130+ dollars, and a 2008 Bordeaux, you are definitely buying the label and not the wine. I prefer a 2009 classified growth for 1/2 the cost and a very similar expression.

1/15/22, 2:45 PM - I think this sums up a lot of 2008 Bordeaux, including this wine which i opened last night. My score was far below yours however.

1/15/22, 5:14 PM - I have a decent number of 08s that I haven’t opened yet. Is it possible you’re drinking these too early?

1/16/22, 4:02 AM - 14 years should not be too early for this vintage. More recent vintages of Bordeaux have been produced in a more Californian style, which requires less, not more, time. I suspect that 2006 & 2008 will be lost vintages that never really aged as they should. Additionally some of the 2004 Bordeaux were good upon release, but also aged poorly. I consider those 3 vintages similar in style.

1/16/22, 8:22 AM - 2008 wines are hit and miss. I’ve had some very correct wines from both side of the river but this wine is not Bordeaux correct to me. This is a total hang, squeeze, and dolled up wine to me. Very California , and dare I say, for and appealing to???? I’ll let your mind quandar. You need allot of hope in you to age this if you’re looking for a classic Bordeaux.
