April 19, 2022 - First of these we've tried, tasted over two nights, compared it with 2018 Liminal GSM and 2019 Liminal High Contrast Syrah. We liked the Cayuse much better than either of those. The En Cerise is dark garnet-purple, opaque, with very pronounced aromas similar to Guigal's single vineyard Cote Roties...roasted meat, bacon fat, plums, black cherries, hint of mocha, already complex. The flavors are rich, viscous, and concentrated without being a "fruit bomb". The balance is perfect, with good acidity and tannin in the background, allowing the fruit to predominate. Sweet black fruit flavors. The first night there was some bitterness when first opened, which lasted a couple of hours then blew off. There was none on the second night.
I am amazed how drinkable Cayuse syrahs are even soon after they arrive. I usually drink them 8-10 years old but occasionally drink a young one and am never disappointed.

1/26/23, 8:17 PM - Great review Ric. I often drink these in that same window but after having this and the 18 Cailloux, I am having second thoughts on waiting so long to try them! I should just copy and paste your review, well said! Cheers! Steve
