Opened, poured and let sit about 1 hr. Then: Pretty much the same as my 1/ /2024 note; except -maybe not quite as harsh at first sip, maybe due to sitting a bit longer. So, maybe a point better on the front end of the glass, but taking off a point for the feeling this was becoming a bit disjointed, maybe beginning to lose a bit of its structure.

Apple, grape. floral, and cut stems on the nose. Flavourful and present palate with a fresh finish. Still rather primary in profile and missing the yeast autolysis flavours of a grand Champagne.

I like it and just what I was looking for in a whine today! Nice fruit, black current, fresh acidity and a medium finish. Seems in a good drinking window now. Last tasted 2 years ago where the wine didn’t appeal to me as much.

A celebratory evening with friends who brought along this bottle to share. Definitely more extracted than I usually prefer, but a crowd pleaser for the table. Very dark and brooding, the mid-palate is a bit one-dimensional, although the finish is quite smooth (more so after a 1-hour decant). I wasn't expecting a ton, so was pleasantly surprised with the drinkability of this glass from what is proving to be a stellar vintage across the board in Napa.

This is a pretty good Chianti Classico! It is full-bodied, intensive, structured, acidic and moderately fruity, providing pleasant aromas and flavors of dark sour cherry, cranberry, violet and spices. This wine can certainly be stored, but it is also very delicious now.

A little one dimensional, pretty much based on citrus characteristics.
We mainly used it as an aperitif mixed with a orange infused rose.

Clean, fresh, elegant. Seems young and on the lighter side, probably from the cooler vintage

this is very pleasant. Plenty of blackberry, plum, garrigue and oak. A decent complexity to it. M acidity and tannins with a pleasant finish.

I probably wouldn’t buy this again but it is decent for price.

AW93. Very light in the glass, but looks can be deceiving, this is full of soft red fruit and with some air it gains depth. I would rate this a point or so higher than Isabelle from the same year. Fantastic.

Quite light scent of light green and yellow nature. Relatively young and fresh.

The taste consist of yellow medium field, has a summer touch to it, citrus and a smal amount of ginger.

A bit to waterish in the body and texture, and has unfortunately not so good complexity.

All over its a nice champagne, but you cant compare it with Krug, Cristal and Dom Perignon.

Points: 90 (92)

I initially thought this was corked. But about 30 mins after popping, it changed. There’s some tea, leather, pepper and smoke. It’s mid-weight, quite tannic and quite balanced at the same time. There are some dark fruits but also some older leather, cigar box for added complexity. Paired nicely with Wagyu porterhouse steak.

It’s been about 3 years since I opened a bottle of this wine and it was honestly one of the highlights of 2021 for me. On this evening I think I caught this wine in an awkward spot. The fruit character was quite a bit different with ripe golden raisins, candied orange, apricot, and figs with an unexpected level of opulence. There was still a current of prickly acidity there, but this felt much more ripe than the racy beauty that I tasted 3 years ago.
Wine is an amazing thing, catching a wine on a certain night or in a certain stage can bring the unexpected. This may have just been a case of bottle variation, but just in case I would strongly recommend holding your bottles of this to let it get out of this current stage. Not bad, by any means. Just not what I am personally looking for with these wonderful wines from this special producer and place.

My first bottle of Gut Hermannsberg, but happy to get the nudge from Lyle Fass. This showed deep minerality in a textural and stylized frame. The palate was creamy with notes of Golden Delicious apples, dehydrated lemons, and cardamom.
The nose showed candied citrus, smoke and an herbaceous blend of mint and lemongrass.
I’d definitely be interested to see where this wine goes with another 3-5 years of age. It is clearly very well crafted and I look forward to future opportunities to taste the wines from this famous Saar estate.

AW97. Initially fresh and so pure on the finish, the 2018 Checkerboard Aurora bursts with beautiful dark blue fruit, it quickly developed weight in the glass and within 30 minutes was showing significant depth and quality. Of course, it could go on to take air for a few hours, but it was showing so well and this was a coravin pour at Napa Grill.

Still drinking well if perhaps slightly off peak. I wouldn't wait a lot longer. Not many of my Zins make the 13 year mark, so this one was a treat.

A wine that's displayed a marked change in style in recent years, firmly on the elegant end of the spectrum. Double decanted and left for a couple of hours. Cherry, fresh cut flowers, damson, crushed spice, rose water, strawberry conserve and a touch of menthol all waft up on the quite beautiful bouquet. The palate is concentrated but supple with lots of wild berry and earthy notes before finishing with building power, tension and grippy tannin. Obviously still very youthful but already approachable and seriously pleasurable.

Popped and poured. 100% Chardonnay from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits in Burgundy. Unable to find specific info on how long, label says “long elevage in wooden barrels”. Unfiltered.

A medium gold in the glass. On the nose it leaps out with roasted hazelnuts, butterscotch, and a bit of orchard fruit peeking behind it. On the palate it’s got a lot of nuttiness, with stewed apple, and creme brûlée as well. Really interesting and mature. It’s quite a big wine, certainly on the fuller side of medium bodied. The racy acidity does wonders to round the wine out. The texture is waxy and unctuous with a long finish, keeping the flavor of roasted nuts/butterscotch on the palate.

Fantastic QPR at $30-something in Paris. Never had a wine with this much age, and it reminds me of a wine vinified under a layer of flor yeast with the nuttiness. I’ve seen this in some Argentinian chardonnays which I’ve only had young, but this is fantastic and developed wonderfully.

Medium garnet in color. Matured nose of old attic, graphite, pencil shavings, ink, followed by a decent amount of fruit with black cherry, bramble, dried meat and cedar. Smooth but well structured palate with refined acid still carried by enough fruit through the lingering end. This was my red WOTN.

Big Napa Cab that was paired with prime rib. Wine of the night for sure against other Napa cabs and an older Chilean bottle. We opened it up and started drinking immediately. Very good first glass but it did get better an hr or 2 later. This wine is amazing and is drinking very good right now. One of my all time favorites!

A surprise bottle in a case shipment, not knowing what's going to show up.

Opened to have with Carol's chicken casserole with Stove-Top stuffing. Being as there's some chard in the casserole, the wine theme needs to keep going with this Sav Blanc. I've not before had the pleasure of a 10 yo SavB from California. I must admit, I am a tad impressed, especially for such an older bottle.

Lots of green apple/grass and grapefruit on the nose. Palate has it all together....lemon citrus, most predominant, a hint of beeswax, and an ever so slight brown herbal/nutty note on the nose and palate. Overall, while good acidity remains there seems to be a bit of a flat/hollow mid palate. Front and back ends are 92, middle is 89. Still, I am impressed......picked this up for only $5. Never would have bet this one would still be doing this well.....with more air, white peach emerges on the nose and takes over. Still, plenty of acidity here for more aging, but alas, it's my only bottle.

Dry, high acidity and alcohol, medium tannin and body.
Medium intensity red cherry with some vanilla leading to a disappointingly short finish.

Cork is in terrific shape. Ingress all around about 30-40% of the way up the cork. The wine is holding on for dear life though. Just enough sweetness of character and wood character behind the tea notes to actually make me want to drink it. Only for those that can enjoy the very old wines.
