Introduction

Ridge Tasting at Farpointe. Their winemaker was there.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2008 Ridge Chardonnay Estate USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Great balance. Nice fruit with a little unsweet honeysuckle. A little creamy oak on the end, but it's not at all intrusive.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2008 Ridge Three Valleys USA, California, Sonoma County
89 points
Dry, with some blackberry and mild spice. Lighter than what I'd expect in a Zin, but it just comes across as young and closed.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red

Smooth but full bodied Zin. Dark berries abound with a small hint of berry sweetness on the end that isn't at all over extracted. Zin of the night at the Ridge tasting for me.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2007 Ridge Lytton Springs USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

Hopefully a few years will really help this wine. It was good, but over extracted tasting on the fruits, with a spiciness that just didn't seem to play well on the palate. Disjointed, but hopefully that will change in another few years.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2006 Ridge Monte Bello USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

This was a smooth, elegant, rich wine. Classic Bordeaux blend in new world style. I'd love to see it develop over the next decade.
