Introduction

Brian grilled up some awesome tri tips, pork tenderloins, and asparagus. We also had a orzo salad, and great cheeses. My favorites were the Cesare Barolo and Beaucastel. The Uccelliera is way to young to drink now.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2003 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Cuvée Agustina Richard Dinner Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain
I didn't take notes on this but remember it being good but not special. Maybe even on the downhill side.
Red
2007 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Surprisingly very elegant, soft and silky. Feminine. As it opened the mouvedre started to show a little. I didn't find it very tannic it all. I will pick up a couple more to stash away for a long while. Very nice.
Red
1997 Pio Cesare Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Leather, menthol, tar, honey. Awesome nose. Nice integrated fine tannins. Really tasty. My wine of the night.
Red
2004 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
I wanted to open one to get baseline on this but I kind of regret it now. This is very young and very tannic. It is packed with fruit and structure and should develop into a very special wine with lots of time. Note to self - wait several years before opening another!
Red
1999 Pietranera Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Mushroom, mint, cherries, and fine tannins. Ann didn't like the nose on this. Tasty.
Red
1999 Vine Cliff Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Private Stock 16 Rows USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
Blackberry Liquer, mint and shoe polish? on the nose. Dry, almost old world like, but still definitely california. Lots of very fine tannins. I don't think there is any need to rush on this wine.
Red
2005 Thorn-Clarke Shiraz William Randell Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
This really through me for a loop. Lots of coffee, toffee, dark chocolate on the nose. I also thought I smelled corn husk and vanilla. I had no idea what to guess this was and only ventured to say south american. Very interesting and fun.
