Flight 1 - Dressner (8 notes)

These wines all showed very well today.

White
2009 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
90 points
Oh boy, Pepiere and Brun, you've got me excited about the '09 vintage. This is much more giving right now then the '07's that I have but rarely open because they are so tightly wound. Not this baby. This is really about as good as wine can possibly get under $15. Beautiful nose, bright seashells. Some citrus, lime flavors. Really layered, and quite showy. Amazing acidity and purity. Terrific stuff. 89-90

2009 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Vieilles Vignes Clos des Briords France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie

7/9/10: So alive. Bright, sea shells. Very open. Unbelievably so. Really delicious, there are layers here waiting to be unraveled. 90+

6/29/10: Bright nose. Sea shells. Nice body. Actually shows some fatness (for Muscadet, at least) Delicious stuff. It's really difficult to buy into $60 grand cru Chablis when stuff like this is available for a quarter of the price. This is world class. 89-91
White
2009 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Beaujolais Blanc France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
87 points
Soft, easy going, and approachable. It's nice, round, and one of the better Chard's out there at this price. 87-88
White
2008 Jean Manciat Mâcon-Charnay Franclieu France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Charnay
88 points
9/27/10: Yummy. Ripe. So good. Medium bodied. This has got to be the perfect compromise between someone who likes oaky chards and someone who likes unoaked chards. 88

7/2/10: Rich and ripe. Tropical even. Great acidity. Great Chardonnay, though maybe I was a point too generous. 88

6/29/10: This is such a fun wine. No oak, but very ripe and full bodied. Tropical fruits on the nose. Almost hints of sweetness. Very tasty stuff, and this will throw down many Cali Chards and also sway many Cali Chard drinkers. 89
White
2008 François Pinon Vouvray Cuvée Tradition France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
89 points
12/18/10: Wow, I've tried and drank this bottle quite a bit. Apricots and round, and everything else I mentioned before. Unfortunately, the acidity doesn't seem to quite be where it was, making this seem sweeter and not quite as refreshing. It's still enjoyable, but not at the same level as when 6 months or even a year ago. It'll be interesting to see if it continues in this vein or is able to somehow rebalanced the sweetness and acidity. Either way, it's still yummy, but not at the yummilicious level it once was. 88

9/27/10: Apricot. Sweetness. Good. So tasty, really. 88+

7/30/10: Stony apricot nose with a little apple. So round, with the sweet fruit being swept away by the acidity, allowing this to finish clean and refreshing. Very high on the delicious factor. 89

6/29/10: A touch of sweetness. Lots of apricots. Just so easy drinking, with so many flavors. Delicious stuff. 90
Red
2009 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Beaujolais Cuvée l'Ancien Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
88 points
9/27/10: Juicy. Easy peasy to enjoy. 87+

7/2/10: Light. Great fruit, some spices. Perfectly balanced. Some earth as well. This opens up beautifully as well. 88

6/29/10: Light red fruits. Cinamon and related spices. Pretty and beautiful. Light and pretty. Juicy. This is all you could possibly hope for from Beaujolais. 88+
Red
2009 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Côte de Brouilly France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly
89 points
9/18/10: Beautiful purple/magenta color. Great nose. Has some spice, raspberry fruit, a little earth. Also, there's some weight here, and a little tannin. At first I preferred this over the Croze that was poured next to it, but it's not quite balanced to the level I'd like. Still, a delicious Beajolais, and I'd to revisit this in a couple years. 89

6/29/10: Oh boy, let's go '09 vintage. Darker fruits then the L'Ancien. In fact, everything about this wine is a little darker. This is medium bodied, there's some heft here. It's also very open at the moment, and a realy joy to drink Great balance. 89+
Red - Fortified
N.V. Quinta do Infantado Porto Ruby Medium Dry Portugal, Douro, Porto

Great fruit. Delicious, with lots of fruit and spice. Yummy. 90+

Flight 2 - Theise (2 notes)

White
2009 Weingut Josef Leitz Riesling Leitz Out Germany, Rheingau
86 points
6/29/10: Just doesn't have the qualities of the '08. Simple and sweet. 86

5/28/10: Was pretty excited about the new vintage of this wine, and a little let down. Some apples on the nose. A lot simpler then the previous vintage. Still a good value, but just a little bit better then average. 86-87
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
9/27/10: Really classy. This is great champagne. 91-92
6/29/10: Nice fruit. Quite ripe. Delicious. 91

Flight 3 - A straggler from Rosenthal (1 note)

White
2008 Domaine Cheveau Pouilly-Fuissé Les Trois Terroirs France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé

Some richness on the nose. Hints of minerality. I like this, but not as much as I want to based on the price. 88
