Introduction

The Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group got together this month primarily to taste 2001 or older Brunello. As usual there were a few off theme suspects that showed up. Here are the results:

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with steady beading. Nose of yellow pears, toast and a hint of sherry. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and some notes of sherry on the medium finish. Bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. No disgorgement date noted. 91.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with steady beading. Nose of yellow pears, a hint of lemon zest and some notes of wet stones. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and lemon zest on the medium finish. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. 91+?

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of berries, plums, perfume and wet stones. Flavors of berries, black cherries and boysenberries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink or hold. 90+/-?

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose is still slightly subdued giving way to aromas of flowers, plums and a bit of black berries and black cherries. Good flavors of berries, plums and cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Can be drank now with some slow oxygenation in bottle over an extended period of time but I'd recommend holding at least two more years before trying the next bottle. 91+.

Flavors of berries, cherries and raspberries. Bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold but I'd personally hold myself. 91-92+/-.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, berries, cherries and a hint of soapstone towards the end. Flavors of tart red berries, raspberries and maybe a dash of cherry on the medium finish. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink or hold. 91+.

Tasted double blind. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose started with a hint of chocolate followed by notes of plums, cherries and thatch. Flavors of berries, cherries and a hint of chocolate on the finish. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with plenty of air or continue to hold. my guess was a 2003 St. Estephe. 92+.

Tasted double blind. Opened and served immediately. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose fo smoke, chocolate and cherries. Flavors of cherries, berries and a bit of mocha on the medium finish. Bright acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with plenty of air or continue to hold. My guess was a 2003 St. Emilion or St. Julien. 92-93?
